South Lake Tahoe man arrested after allegedly brandishing weapon in suspected road rage incident

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a call on Sunday, January 1 about a road rage incident near the Y in South Lake Tahoe.

The caller said another driver had brandished a handgun at them during the incident. They said they saw the suspect crash his vehicle into a snowbank in the eastbound lanes of Lake Tahoe Blvd.

SLTPD and EDSO responded, locating the suspect vehicle in the snowbank. They detained the driver, 27-year-old Moises Casillas of South Lake Tahoe. Upon investigation, SLTPD Sgt. Brian Hannick said they found Casillas was a felon, on active parole, and was in possession of a firearm, ammunition, and a high-capacity magazine. Each one of these constituted a felony.

Casillas was booked in the El Dorado County Jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon which was related to the original circumstances of the call, Hannick said, along with the felony gun charges.

SLTPD contacted Casillas's parole officer, and as a result, the charge of violation of parole was added.

The highway had been shut down during the incident. The vehicle was towed from the scene which relieved any related traffic issues.
