Gardnerville man arrested on domestic battery and child abuse charges

A Douglas County man is in jail this morning after allegedly battering his wife and strangling her, shooting off a gun inside their home and resisting arrest on Monday, January 5, 2016.

At 11:10 p.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a home in the 1300 block of Banner Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos neighborhood. A woman had called, saying she had been battered and strangled by her husband.

As deputies began responding it was reported the male, 38-year-old Mathew Meinen, discharged a shotgun inside the residence where seven minor children were located.

Meinen and the female were in the front yard as deputies arrived. They asked the male suspect to remove his hands from his pockets and to get on the ground. Meinene refused and began walking back into this residence.

Deputies deployed a taser and took Meinen into custody without further incident.

He was booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, domestic battery, child abuse and ex-felon in possession of a firearm. His bail has been set at $78,810.00.

The female was transported by East Fork Fire and Paramedics to the hospital for evaluation. Her condition is unknown at this time.
