EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - As the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) releases the first phase of the National Broadband Map, communities around the country are asked to participate in order to check on broadband availability.
The interactive map will reflect availability, a tool to determine funding and other efforts to bring broadband to unserved and underserved communities. The collected important and accurate data is needed.
El Dorado County joins other cities and counties in asking residents to complete the very quick test. Local governments will greatly benefit from being active and engaged in the challenge process to the National Broadband Map.
To participate, visit https://www.edcgov.us/Government/planning/internet-speed-test. The deadline to participate is January 13, 2023.
El Dorado County residents and business owners are asked to self-report their internet speed at home, work, or wherever they are connected to the internet. The data collected will be mapped and used to invest in resources to improve broadband access across the County of El Dorado. This campaign includes all of El Dorado County, whether you have excellent internet speeds or no access at all.
The results from the Internet Speed Test will help:
- Identify areas of El Dorado County where homes and businesses lack high-speed internet connection
- Discover which households do not have an internet connection and the reasons why
- Direct funds toward providing reliable broadband access throughout the County
