As your elected Sheriff I want to address any citizen concerns regarding potential unlawful protests and violence stemming from next week’s Presidential inauguration. I want to send a clear and unwavering message to the residents and visitors of El Dorado County. Your Sheriff’s Office will continue to vehemently support and defend an individual’s constitutional rights to freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Concurrently, I and my deputies will uphold the law and we will not tolerate any violence or insurrection from any individual or group as a result of these events, regardless of their affiliation.
Your Sheriff’s Office is prepared for any potential violence. The Sheriff’s Office maintains relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies who will assist in the event any additional resources are needed to uphold the law in El Dorado County. Be assured the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is prepared and has the resources necessary to keep our communities safe while exercising their Constitutional Rights, as well as the ability to take enforcement on any person or group that chooses to resort to violence or criminal activity in El Dorado County.
In 2020, we survived a challenging and confusing time in our county, our state, and our nation. We have all experienced this adversity not alone, but together as a community. Our history has shown that we can accomplish great things if we work towards common goals. Although 2021 will undoubtedly come with new challenges, I am confident we all will continue our pursuit of building a thriving and wonderful community. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to service and building a community which we can all enjoy together.
Your Sheriff,
John D’Agostini
