LTUSD reopens for in-person instruction Tuesday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will reopen for in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 18. They closed classrooms on Thursday and Friday due to a rise in COVID-19 cases among staff and students.

They will continue to monitor the health of staff to ensure LTUSD can remain operational. Staying home if ill will help the school community return to a healthy status.

There is still a significant amount of COVID-19 positivity in South Lake Tahoe. The District asks that if you, or your child, have symptoms of illness, assume it is COVID-19 until you get a test or alternative diagnosis indicating something else.

Anyone with any symptoms of illness must stay home, and a test is recommended, LTUSD said in an email Monday to parents.

They distributed at-home COVID-19 tests last week to students, and although it is not required that your child have a negative test to return to school, it is highly recommended by staff. If you did not get a test, you may pick one up at your school site before school on Tuesday. Students who are testing before school will not be considered tardy.

LTUSD Guidelines

If you or your child was tested last week because of symptoms of illness, and you are waiting for test results, you must stay home until you have negative results. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, you are required to stay home five days and may return to school when your symptoms are resolved, you are fever-free for at least 24 hours, and have a negative antigen test day five or later.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been quarantined for ten days since the onset of your symptoms, and are no longer symptomatic (not even one symptom), you may return to school tomorrow without the need to show a negative test result.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last five days, please stay home and email your school nurse for further instructions.

"We look forward to seeing all staff and students who have no symptoms of illness at school tomorrow," said LTUSD health staff. " Please make sure to wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose; surgical masks and N95 masks are recommended by Public Health for your and everyone’s protection."
