LTUSD issues temporary restrictions for athletics, performing arts, meetings

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With COVID-19 cases continuing to surge not only in South Lake Tahoe but around the country, some new temporary restrictions are going to be added to the functions of Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD.

It is the largest surge in cases within the LTUSD community that has been seen since the pandemic began.

LTUSD will be implementing some changes to achieve their main goal of keeping students in the classroom and the district open five days per week.

Temporary restrictions through January 28, 2022:

There is a pause on all spectator/audience activities. This includes sports games and practices, and band and theatrical performances held indoors.

All Indoor Music and Theatrical performances will be postponed and rescheduled for the end of February and the beginning of March.

All Rezoning meetings at the elementary sites are canceled this week and will be rescheduled.

No volunteers will be allowed on campus for the remainder of January 2022.

No visitors will be allowed on campus for the remainder of January 2022.

Only players and coaches will be allowed at indoor games through the end of January. Student-athletes will continue to take a weekly COVID-19 test to participate in all athletic events. LTUSD will make every effort to live-stream home games for the next two weeks.

Transportation has been impacted by COVID-19. Travel to away sporting events will be contingent on the availability of transportation. For any events that are canceled, there will be an attempt to reschedule at a future date.

All of these temporary changes are to keep students and staff safe and to mitigate further spread of COVID-19, said LTUSD. It is a short-term step to stop the spread.

The status of COVID-19 in the community and an end to restrictions or a continuation will be reevaluated on January 28.
