South Lake Tahoe USPS offers special hours this week, changes in the works

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After weeks of delayed mail and long hours at the main post office in South Lake Tahoe, change is in the air.
Extra workers from Sacramento have been brought in and the front counter will have extended hours for mail pick-up on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week to accommodate customers. A new postmaster to replace the void left through retirement is also coming on board.
The main post office will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Responses have been received by local residents who have used the United States Post Office complaint line. A response received today said they have already sent some 4WD vehicles up to be used instead of the current rear-wheel drive vehicles that cannot navigate roads in South Lake Tahoe and Meyers.
"We do sincerely apologize for any inconvenience customers may experience and we remain committed to delivering to our communities daily with a dedicated focus on the safety of our employees. We do take this matter seriously we are not only postal employees we are also postal customers and we know that this is not the standard that our customers expect from us and we remain committed to improving and strengthening our services," said the response letter.
Over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, the post office kept the front counter open Saturday-Monday to help with those looking for missing mail and packages.
The current staff being brought in said they hope to have all of the packages sorted by next week.
The post office is hiring and holding some hiring events, one in Truckee and the other in Reno. the Reno one was held Wednesday and there will be one more on Thursday at the Truckee Post Office, 10050 Bridge St., Truckee from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find out more about working for USPS HERE or apply HERE.
