Tahoe Inc, monthly entrepreneurship roundtables scheduled for January

Event Date:
January 23, 2023 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Prosperity Center (TPC) has been a driving force in addressing some of the toughest challenges facing the Tahoe-Truckee Region since 2012. Its initiatives include solving for workforce housing, improvement of higher-wage job opportunities, expanding reliable and robust digital connectivity, and ensuring a safe Basin equipped with fire alert cameras. This work has been broadly supported by consistent research and reporting practices, including the Measuring for Prosperity regional socioeconomic indicator reports.

The Envision Tahoe Prosperity Playbook is a set of research-based strategies and tactics (or “plays”) to diversify and strengthen our regional economy. This Playbook provides leaders and residents in the Tahoe-Truckee Region strategies to activate based on best timing, subregional needs, capacity, and funding. Leaders from the public, private, and community sectors can collaborate and coordinate their activities as a cohesive team working to achieve a common vision while the Playbook grants members the flexibility to seize emerging opportunities or adjust to changing environments.

Tahoe, Inc is the entrepreneurship and innovation component of the Playbook.

TPC envisions a start-up community in the Tahoe-Truckee Region that has the people, organizations, network connections, investors and advisors, and talent necessary to start, grow, and scale businesses that fit Tahoe’s economic, social and environmental strengths.

Monthly Roundtables started on the South Shore in late 2022 and are now happening on the North Shore in 2023 as well. The first events will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday, January 23 at Untethered Coworking space in Roundhill, Nev., and on Wednesday, January 25 at Tahoe National Brewing Company in Tahoe City, Calif.

“These sessions will not only allow for peer-to-peer mentoring, but will serve as a way to connect local entrepreneurs and small business owners with additional resources including the Small Business Development Center run by the Sierra Business Council, the Startup Sacramento and Startup Nevada networks, and others,” said Dr. Jamie Orr, co-founder of Untethered and Cowork Tahoe, and a leader behind Tahoe Inc.

Research shows that Tahoe is home to a growing number of entrepreneurs, C-suite business leaders, startups, and investors, drawn to the region for its world-class outdoor recreation and the lake’s unmatched beauty. Together, these residents form a vibrant, successful startup community. Launching this fall, Tahoe Inc. aims to link this innovation ecosystem through an easy-to-use digital network, events, and activities.

Before Tahoe Inc., there was little systemic support for entrepreneurs or individuals wishing to start or grow their businesses. The effects of the pandemic, the Caldor Fire, and dramatic shifts in the economy and the environment were a wake-up call. Local business, government, education, community, and tribal leaders all came together through an initiative called Envision Tahoe to lay the groundwork for a more resilient Tahoe – one with diverse pathways to new career possibilities and for Tahoe workers to live locally and support their families.

“We are thrilled to see the energy and enthusiasm from the leaders of Tahoe, Inc to support and grow regional entrepreneurship in the Tahoe Truckee region. We look forward to connecting state and federal resources to the projects and programs that will help support this important aspect of our regional economy,” added Heidi Hill Drum, CEO of the Tahoe Prosperity Center.
