SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One will have to travel far distances to find someplace warm this week as the Lake Tahoe Basin will see some of the coldest air in some time. Bitter cold temperatures are expected for Monday and Tuesday around Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada, with some locations expected to see their coldest low temperatures in the last five to ten years, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
Temperatures will moderate back toward more typical levels as we head into February with a fast-moving front to bring a few showers Friday and another one is possible by next Sunday or Monday. At this time it doesn't look like anything big, there are a few models that show moderate snow potential to the Sierra and northeast California with the system early next week.
The first day of spring is in 49 days.
