Winter Storm Watch issued for Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Just as the region shovels out the remnants of Winter Storm Orlena, another storm is headed to the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch for South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Stateline, and Incline Village for possible heavy snow Monday afternoon through Tuesday night.

Heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches in the Tahoe Basin, 10 to 18 inches above 7000 feet, with up to 2 feet along the Sierra crest possible. Winds could gust as high as 70 mph over the high Sierra.

Winds will bring choppy conditions on Lake Tahoe with wave heights of 2 to 4 feet possible.

The three-day forecast from NWS Reno:

Today - Sunny, with a high near 41. Calm wind.

Tonight - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Light and variable wind becoming south
5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Sunday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Monday - A chance of rain and snow after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Monday Night - A chance of rain and snow before 7pm, then snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 28. Breezy, with a southwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
