Fundraiser to help with arrangements in bringing Kyle Smaine home to South Lake Tahoe

On January 29, 2023, Kyle Smaine, beloved husband, son, brother, and friend was unfortunately killed in an avalanche while on a ski trip in Japan. Kyle was a pro skier, talented cyclist, passionate adventurer, and an even more incredible human. The many communities he touched have shown an outpouring of love and respectful words for Kyle, and the family and friends are so grateful.

Amid the grief and despair being felt in Kyle’s absence, his family and friends are now enduring a painful reality and tedious process of arranging for his return home to South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

Death abroad is a complex situation, and the family is working closely with the Bureau of Consular Affairs and government officials from both the USA and Japan to ensure the end-of-life expectations are met and his body can return to US soil. Arrangements for his preservation and transport are subject to foreign law, permits, facilities, and customs requirements — creating unexpected and enormous costs.

A GO FUND ME account has been set up to help with the costs and logistics involved in returning Kyle home.
