The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) are conducting high visibility and strong DUI enforcement as part of the Department of Public Safety’s Joining Forces campaign.
DCSO will increase patrol primarily in the Stateline area of the Lake Tahoe basin. Their Joining Forces campaign runs from Feb. 4 through Feb. 15. The NHP campaign is Feb. 4 to Feb. 13.
Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program which promotes enforcement in the areas of: driving under the influence, distracted driving, seat belts, and speed. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives, increase traffic safety, and increase public awareness about the dangers of making unsafe choices while getting behind the wheel.
Each year, motorists across Nevada are killed or injured because someone made the decision to drive impaired. In 2018, 133 people died on Nevada’s roadways in impaired driving crashes. Impaired driving doesn’t mean just alcohol; it is anything that affects your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Being a responsible driver is simple: if you are impaired, do not drive. Whether it’s a designated driver or public transportation, everyone should make sure they have a
plan in place to avoid any chance of making a poor decision that could lead to unnecessary tragedy.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind those who drink to drink responsibly and don’t drive impaired. Safety is a top priority year-round; the dangers of DUI are serious. That is why DCSO continues to encourage their “Call for a Ride. Stay Alive.” message.
Safe alternatives to driving impaired include:
Designate a sober driver
Place to call a cab or use a ride-share service
Text a sober friend
And if you see a drunk driver on the road, call 9-1-1.
