Mitchell Duane Jones 1949 - 2024

Mitchell Duane Jones passed away on January 26, 2024, following a period of declining health. Mitch was a graduate of Armijo High School in Fairfield, CA, and UC Berkeley, where he was very active in the marching band.
After graduating from college, Mitch became the band director at Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Calif. where the band had the honor of marching in the 1980 Tournament of Roses Parade under his direction.
Later, Mitch became the band director at George Whitell High School in Lake Tahoe, Nev., and finished his career as a music teacher at junior high and elementary schools within the Douglas County (Nevada) School District. Mitch worked for the Douglas County School District from 1981 through 2006.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mavis Jones, and his brothers Kevin and Mat Jones. He is survived by his sisters Kerri Jones of San Francisco, Calif., and Sandy Morris (Jones) of South Dakota, as
well as his sons James Fox of Wooster, Ohio, and Jonathan Jones of Angwin, Calif., daughter Kelley Jones of Livermore, Calif., and seven grandchildren.
Mitch was affectionately known as Mr. Music by the many students he taught music to throughout his career. He touched the lives of many as a musician, educator, and mentor, and fond memories of him will live on
