City of South Lake Tahoe launches snowplow tracking tool for areas within city limits

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has launched a new snowplow tracking tool allowing residents to view the progress of snow removal operations throughout the city. GPS tracking devices installed on each snowplow provide updates to the tracking system once a street has been plowed. Residents can easily view the status of snowplow operations in near real-time via a color-coding system applied to each street. Streets on the tracking tool map will change color based on the timeframe of service.

“We are excited to bring this new and innovative tracking tool to our residents. This tool not only allows us to be transparent and open about our snow removal operations but helps to keep residents informed about city operations, stated City Manager," Joe Irvin. "Additional benefits of this system include optimizing routes, fleet management, cost-effectiveness, and real-time tracking leading to more efficiency in our winter operations.”

The City’s Public Works staff has worked extensively with GeoTab Fleet Management Solutions to customize the tracking tool for our city; however, it is still going undergoing testing. We ask residents to provide feedback on the tracking tool by sending an email to csltpw@cityofslt.us.

If you would like to learn more about the Snowplow Tracking Tool, visit the City's Winter Operations Open House on Saturday, February 10 from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Public Works Director Anush Nejad will also be sharing other enhancements to this year’s snow operations during this event. Plus, get a firsthand look at some of their new snow removal equipment.
