The Sugar Bowl Academy joined competitive junior freeride teams from across the country in Wyoming on February 2nd, 2022, for the International Freeskiing & Snowboarding Association’s (IFSA) Junior National event hosted by Grand Targhee Ski Resort.
The event brought talented athletes excited to test themselves on the steep and gnarly terrain that the mountain is known for. The junior freeriders, aged 12-18 years old, found creative ways down the mountain that showcased their strongest skiing.
Over the course of the three-day event, the young competitors vied for a qualification spot for the finals day. Strong, bold, and technical skiing was the goal for these young shredders, and after hundreds of runs, the young cadre of Sugar Bowl Academy women earned the top spots on the podium for the 15-18 girl’s category.
Sophomore Elsa McAllister scored the win on the weekend, followed by Senior Elena Messner in second and Rachael McAllister scooping up a well-earned third. Freshman Vivianne Brown found herself in 6th over the weekend in the highly competitive 12-14 girls category. The team exhibited great sportsmanship, positive attitudes, and enjoyed the terrain and community of Grand Targhee over the course of the trip.
The team is headed into another competition weekend at Palisades Tahoe on Saturday, February 12.
