Almost 10,000 truck loads of snow removed from highway in South Lake Tahoe this season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has snowed a lot in South Lake Tahoe this season, and the record-setting snow hasn't ended yet. Caltrans District 3 is responsible for clearing the snow off the state roads, 1,330 lane miles worth at Lake Tahoe, some of those on the South Shore.

As the highway goes through the community, snow cannot be stored on the sides of the four- and five-lane road as it can elsewhere as businesses and homes line those sides. Instead, it is trucked to the end of Sierra Boulevard to the Caltrans snow dump.

So far this winter, since November 3, 9,755 truckloads full of snow have been taken to this snow dump by Caltrans staff and contracted truck drivers. This represents just snow from SR89 and US50, not from any city streets.

On Friday, crews were working on the massive amount of snow at this storage area, getting prepared for upcoming snow storms.
