Bus facilities closed due to unsafe conditions; limited service expected to return Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The maintenance and dispatch building that Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) uses for its local bus service was found to be unsafe and was closed by the City of South Lake Tahoe. Bus service was initially suspended for Wednesday afternoon, but they also did not operate Thursday or Friday.

The City owns the building and TTD leases it. The City found some concerns during routine inspections earlier this week and told TTD they could not use the building.

A structural engineering firm has been hired by the City to do a full assessment of the facility. On Monday, they will inspect it for structural integrity and provide a report likely by the end of next week. The report will recommend necessary actions and assess when/if the building can be re-occupied, according to the City of South Lake Tahoe Public Information Officer Lindsey Baker.

In the meantime, City staff have been clearing out space at its D Street Public Works facility, providing a full maintenance bay for TTD to use.
