STHS grad earns collegiate wrestler of the week honors, heading into conference finals ranked #2

South Tahoe High School (STHS) graduate Andrew Herrera excelled at wrestling while in high school and is continuing his winning ways in college. Herrera started his collegiate career at San Francisco State and is now wrapping it up at Southern Oregon University.

Herrera is currently ranked #2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) and his team is ranked #15 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) conference (where he is #13). He was recently named CCC's Rize Laboratory Men's Wrestler of the Week after defeating two ranked opponents.

He wrestles at 197 pounds and is heading into the conference finals this weekend. Last year he also qualified for the NAIA Championships at 197. He peaked in the NAIA regular-season rankings at No. 24.

While at STHS, Herrea made it to the Nevada State Wrestling Championships all four years, capping it off with two consecutive first-place finishes in his junior and senior years.

Herrera's plan after graduation is to join the Navy.

The 2024 CCC Men’s Wrestling Tournament Championship will be hosted by Eastern Oregon University on February 16 and 17 in La Grande, Oregon. That will be followed by the NAIA holding its 67th annual NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championship, held February 29 – March 2, 2024, at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas.
