Dr. Kawika Liu is the new director for the Barton Community Health Center. Lui, originally from Hawaii, came to Barton via Ukiah, CA.
He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics but will take on a leadership role at the clinic as well as creating a patient-centered, medical home model (PCMC). PCMC is primary care that is patient-centered, comprehensive, team-based, coordinated, accessible, and focused on quality and safety.
"A patient-centered medical home is a rethinking of the relationship between the healthcare provider and the patient and family, in order to re-center on the patient/family and engage them in the process towards health," Dr. Liu explains. "It is a team-based approach, with the patient at the center of the team. It is intended to offer care over the lifetime that meaningfully engages the patient and provides all team members a role in healing."
Another new appointment is that of Katie Shea as the Patient Experience Coordinator. She will focus on patient satisfaction and implement improved efficiencies and greater employee engagement.
