The El Dorado County Opioid Coalition (EDCOC) is hosting a free virtual summit, Addressing the Opioid and Overdose Crises in El Dorado County on Wednesday, March 24 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The opioid epidemic has been called the worst drug crisis to hit the US, with 2020 having the highest overdose deaths on record. Every year, tens of thousands of Americans die from opioid and other drug overdoses, devastating families, and our communities.

EDCOC is working collectively with local and national experts to discuss current and future solutions to address the opioid crisis. The goal is to increase awareness about services available within El Dorado County. There will be several local presenters from Barton Health, Marshall Medical Center, Shingle Springs Health & Wellness Center, the El Dorado Community Health Center and El Dorado County Public Health. The focus will be on California Bridge programs, the expanding role of harm reduction, the status on COVID, polysubstance use and abuse, and Medicated-Assisted Treatment programs.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Corey Waller, a board-certified practicing emergency medicine and pain addiction medicine specialist. Dr. Waller is a nationally recognized expert in Substance Use Disorder and the editor-in-chief of The ASAM Criteria. His speaking topics will include Substance Use disorder treatment for people who are incarcerated with the criminal justice system, Substance Use Disorder Comorbidities, and overdose prevention.
