Early morning fire in South Lake Tahoe destroys mobile home and trailer

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A mobile home and travel trailer are a total loss after an early morning fire in South Lake Tahoe.

At 6:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to a call of a structure fire on E Street across the street from the climbing gym. South Lake Tahoe Police Department got to the scene first and said there was a fully engulfed structure. SLTFR found heavy fire on the back porch of one home, a fully engulfed travel trailer, and an occupied 5th wheel taking on significant heat that was close to igniting.

The reporting party told dispatch there was a fire on her back porch and hung up. The first alarm response was two battalions, three engines, 1 truck, a medic from SLTFR and Lake Valley Fire, and a JPA ambulance.

SLTFR engine crews quickly pulled an attack line and a supply line from a hydrant. Others at the scene were assigned as Rapid Intervention Crew and safety, while Tahoe Douglas Fire watched for any calls in the city limits.

Crews reported a quick knockdown of the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but appears accidental in nature with the origin found to be on the back porch of the mobile home of the reporting party.

There were no injuries.

SLTFR Battalion Chief Jim Drennan said Both the mobile home and the travel trailer are considered “total loss”. The third property is a 5th wheel trailer with a permanent occupant and sustained approximately $10K in damages.

The total response was three engines, one truck, two medic units, three chief officers, and law enforcement. Utility companies were notified and responded to the scene to secure gas and electric.
