Lake Tahoe holiday forecast: Warm, abundant sunshine leading to wind/snow and dropping temps

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A persistent ridge of high pressure continues to hang out over the west, keeping any large storms at bay, for now. This is keeping things dry and mild conditions with mainly light winds into the start of the President's Day weekend.

High temps will run about 10 degrees above normal but get ready for another round of weather whiplash!

A slider-type system will move into the region late Sunday through Tuesday with gusty winds, snow showers, and much colder temperatures, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

The current forecast from NWS Reno:

Today - Sunny, with a high near 49. South wind around 5 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon.

Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 21. South wind around 5 mph.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 53. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Calm wind.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sunday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly between 10 pm and 4 am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.

Washington's Birthday - A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10 am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 34.

Monday Night - A slight chance of snow after 4 am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 10.

Tuesday - A chance of snow, mainly after 10 am. Partly sunny, with a high near 29.

Tuesday Night - A slight chance of snow. Partly cloudy, with a low around 7.

Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.

Wednesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 9.
