South Tahoe High's Jesus "Chuy" Chavarin state wrestling champ

South Lake Tahoe now has a state wrestling champ. Jesus "Chuy" Chavarin dominated in the 285-pound weight class at the 2022 Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Class 3A tournament in Boulder on Saturday. He defeated Dylan Spencer of Boulder City in the final match.

South Tahoe High School (STHS) took a record seven wrestlers to the tournament, and returned with a first, third and fourth place. The other two Vikings that placed were freshman Kash Hendrick, third place in the 132 pound class, and Patrick Webster with fourth at 138 pounds. The other STHS grapplers in Boulder were Zach Briggs, Garrett Friederici, Andrew Singelyn, and Cristian Arce.

As a team, South Tahoe High's 45 points put them in ninth place in the state. Elko (145 pts) and Spring Creek (142.5) led the state and came in first and second.
