SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been almost one year since schools were closed in South Lake Tahoe due to the pandemic. While younger students have been able to start attending in-person school on a hybrid schedule, South Tahoe High School (STHS) and Mt. Tallac High School students have not been able to, that is, until now.
With El Dorado County moving into the Red Tier with less restrictions, the high schools can now reopen and start seeing students with in-person learning on March 8.
Since the high schools never moved to Phase 2 before the end of 2020, they had to remain on distance learning per the State orders at the time. The State required the county to be in Red Tier for two weeks before the high school reopening, but that changed to just five days.
STHS goes to a three-Cohort schedule. Cohort A (last names start with A-L) will attend on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Cohort B (last names M-Z) attends Thursdays and Fridays during the same time schedule. Cohort V are 100 percent virtual or students who cannot attend due to illness or something else. They attend virtually all four days. Wednesdays are used for virtual days and development days.
Due to a low student population, Mt. Tallac High School will combine in-person four days/week and virtual learning. Classes will be held from 8:15 a.m. 12:50 p.m. M, T, Th, F. Wednesdays are virtual and support days.
