SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The current storm is not disappointing, with the snow still falling and expected through the weekend. For South Lake Tahoe, the forecast calls for another 16"-24" expected through the day and night.
US50 over Echo Summit has remained open though travel is not suggested due to blowing and heavy snow. I80 was closed for much of Friday, and that can be expected today due to poor traction for trucks, and low visibility for vehicles. SR88 is closed in the Sierra, SR89 is closed around Emerald Bay, and the Mt. Rose Highway is closed.
To follow road conditions, visit https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ for California and https://www.nvroads.com/ for Nevada as situations can change quickly.
Semi-trucks have been stuck on roads around Lake Tahoe as they circumvented the closures on I80. Two jackknifed big rigs were on SR89 at Emerald Bay early Saturday, even with the road closure. Another big rig was stuck on SR88 at the Nevada state line, and last night a stuck truck on SR28 south of Incline Village hampered travel.
Sierra-at-Tahoe is closed on Saturday due to blizzard conditions. They are reporting 40" of snow in the last 24 hours. Heavenly's website states they received 20" of snow in the last 24 hours and Toyota Big Air events Friday were canceled. No word yet on Saturday's schedule. Palisades Tahoe Upper Mountain received 24" of snow overnight and they are closed as is Alpine Meadows Saturday due to high winds and blowing snow. Diamond Peak and Kirkwood have limited operations, and check ahead at other ski resorts.
This storm isn't over yet, so take precautions and stay off the roads if possible.
