Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigating THC gummy bears at middle school

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) opened an investigation on Thursday, March 3 after a 12-year-old middle school student reported feeling "very strange."

It has been determined that the student, along with a number of other students at the middle school in the Carson Valley, had ingested gummy bears that were actually marijuana edibles that contain THC (the psychoactive drug in marijuana). The students got the marijuana edibles from another student who stole them from her father and brought them to school.

It is fortunate that this was not more severe, DCSO said in a press release.

Another concern in Douglas County includes counterfeit prescription pills being circulated that contain fentanyl. The pills are being smuggled into the country from Mexico and routinely encountered by the DCSO Patrol Division and the local narcotics enforcement units. The counterfeit pills encountered locally are usually blue and have M-30 stamped on them, but they could be made to look like any legitimate prescription or non-prescription pill. Parents are reminded to warn their children to NEVER ingest anything they get from anyone other than their parents.
