EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors have on their agenda Tuesday a resolution to have temporary right-turn restrictions this summer from North Upper Truckee Road and Sawmill Road onto US 50 on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If approved, the new turn restrictions will begin between May 1 and May 21, 2022, and terminate on Sunday, October 30, 2022. All turn restriction-related traffic control regulatory and advisory signs on Lake Tahoe Boulevard, Sawmill Road, and North Upper Truckee Road would be removed before Sunday, November 6th, 2022.
There was a pilot program during the summer of 2021 in response to complaints from residents about a large number of vehicles using neighborhood streets as another highway to bypass backups on westbound U.S. Highway 50 in Meyers. The restriction on turns is for all drivers, locals included. Cell phone mapping apps will guide drivers onto side streets to avoid traffic based on Bluetooth and other data. If a street is closed or has restrictions, the apps will not send drivers onto those roads.
The plan was created by Meyers residents Tony Russo and Jeffrey Spencer. They received input from several sources including the City of Fremont, Calif. where neighborhood traffic became a nightmare during commute hours as people looked for shortcuts.
The 2021 pilot program did not get a full season of data due to the Caldor Fire and roads to the South Shore being shut down for weeks.
The meeting will be held in person and remotely starting at 9:00 a.m. For the full agenda and participation information, visit HERE. It is the first item on the agenda after the consent portion.
