SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As expected, this latest atmospheric river has created major challenges for Heavenly Mountain Resort, its employees, and the South Lake Tahoe community. Due to these challenges, the resort will remain closed for a second day on Saturday.
Both the City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County has declared a State of Emergency, and impacts from the weather are widespread from the resort through Lake Tahoe.
"Mother Nature has thrown a lot our way this season and the current storm cycle had dropped wet, heavy snow at higher elevations, and rain at lower elevations – as we anticipated," said Heavenly in a statement.
While mountain teams have been working around the clock on-site to maintain the mountain, it's been an uphill challenge keeping up with all of the storms and now, the warmer, wetter system.
"While Sunday’s forecast looks promising for operations, we have a lot of work to do before we can safely reopen – and we remain under a State of Emergency here in South Lake Tahoe," Heavenly continued. "We’ll provide updates as our team continues to dig out as we work towards reopening."
