South Tahoe High Grad Night committee is seeking donations for this year’s safe and sober Grad Night event scheduled for June 17, 2022, at Heavenly’s Cal Base Lodge. The location was made possible through Vail Resort’s EpicPromise Community Grant Program.
The Grad Night Team is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the goal of establishing a norm for young adults that emphasizes that celebrating does not need drugs or alcohol. This year is the 30th Anniversary of South Tahoe Grad Night and graduating seniors will get to participate in interactive events, activities, enjoy food & beverages, and receive a gift bag with custom sweatshirts and various community/business donations.
The grad night committee is trying to raise a minimum of $30,000 to offset the cost of the event. The goal is to have 100 percent of graduating seniors from South Tahoe High and Mt. Tallac School spend the evening of their graduation safe and sober. Donations will help to keep ticket prices low and provide free tickets to students who are unable to afford them.
The event starts at 9:00 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 2:30 a.m. For the safety of the students and to prevent any use of drugs or alcohol during the evening, they will not be allowed to leave the event and later return. All food and beverages will be supplied on-site and the evening will allow students to enjoy a plethora of fun and safe activities run by volunteer parents throughout the evening. In addition, each student will be entered into the $1000 Cash Grand Raffle!
“It’s been a year of challenges for South Tahoe High students, including a three-week delay due to the Caldor Fire, a five-day school closure due to high COVID cases, and cancellations and restrictions of events throughout the year,” said Cary Brown, Grad Night Committee director. “We want every student to have the chance to attend this amazing community-supported event as part of their senior year experience. It sends a strong, supportive message that, as a community, we want them to aspire to do great things!”
Grad Night was proposed in 1992 by concerned community members to create a sober celebration preventing drug or alcohol-related arrest, injury, or death during graduation. Donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to the address below or through our Paypal portal.
