Celebrating one year of sustainable fashion in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When Ginger Threads Collections founders, Shayna Dorris and Bridget Collins envisioned opening a sustainable fashion boutique, the pandemic was nowhere in sight. They created a logo, built a website and started finding brands to partner with.

As the inventory started coming in, the Covid-19 cases around the world started to climb. The boutique officially launched as planned on March 18, 2020 as the United States went under a stay-at-home order. It certainly wasn’t ideal, but it was too late to turn back!

The boutique has the best handmade jewelry and quality clothing from “hidden gem” designers and artisans from all over the United States and around the world. Even during the pandemic, the boutique outgrew the small rented space, and a retail location became the next logical step. The owners opened up a Tahoe-inspired location at the Swiss Chalet Village in South Lake Tahoe and have been able to offer shoppers private appointments and exclusive group private sip and shops.

The co-founders, Bridget Collins Collins and Shayna Dorris Dorris, are battle buddies since meeting in Afghanistan, best friends and now business partners. They love to embrace the cultures of other countries and soak in the traditions of the people. Their goal is to make a difference in the fashion industry by sharing more about living wages, slow fashion and the importance of knowing who made your clothes.

Ginger Threads Collections was named after Shayna’s mom who passed away tragically, at the age of 51. Ginger represented everything a Ginger Threads Woman would - living life doing what makes us happy, while looking beautiful, feeling great, and taking care of others around us! You’ll find Shayna in the store ready to share the story behind each item if you’re interested to know. Bridget lives in Washington DC and is mostly behind the scenes. Ginger Threads proudly donates a portion of their profits to support human trafficking education and victim assistance.

They are open by appointment - book on their website or by calling/texting 530-721-6462. Website - https://www.gingerthreadscollections.com/.
