Raley's plans to reopen one South Lake Tahoe store soon

10:30 p.m. UPDATE: The team at Raley's at the "Y" made great progress in safely removing snow off the roof Wednesday. The Emerald Bay Road store is prepared to reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 16.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The March 2023 storms have been damaging to South Lake Tahoe homes and businesses, with several being closed or red-tagged due to safety and structure concerns.

The two biggest closures came this last week when Raley's closed its two South Lake Tahoe locations.

Good news for shoppers at the "Y" location.

In light of the snowpack on the roof and with a focus on the safety of our team members and customers, the store remains closed. according to Raley's spokesperson Chelsea Minor. Their teams are working to remove the snowpack and continue to assess the situation.

"We have made good progress over the last few days and hope to have the store open in the next day or two," Minor said Wednesday morning.

The Stateline location is a different story.

On Saturday, in coordination with local officials, they closed the store at 4000 South Lake Tahoe Blvd. Since then, a portion of the roof collapsed due to the weight of the increased snowpack. Through an external expert, the roof damage is not widespread and is limited to one area of the roof.

"Our team is working on a formal plan to safely remove the remaining snow and repair the roof," said Minor. "As of right now. the store will remain closed until further notice."

Raley's had negotiated their lease renewal at the Village Center and wanted to stay in that location. There has been no decision on a closure date and the company is waiting to hear more from the expert analysis and set future plans accordingly.

With the two Raley's stores closed, Safeway at Round Hill also closed due to snowpack concerns on the roof. They were able to remove snow and the roof was inspected, allowing it to reopen on Tuesday.
