Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe Friday, chance rain/snow as system departs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There a Lake Wind Advisory in place through Friday night in the Lake Tahoe Basin, calling for southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Waves 2 to 3 feet are possible.

There is another chance of rain and snow Friday and into early Saturday before the system heads out, leaving a calmer, mostly sunny weekend.

The weekend forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno:

This Afternoon - Rain and snow likely, mainly before 4pm. Snow level 6500 feet. Partly sunny, with a high near 43. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight - Snow likely, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday - A 20 percent chance of snow after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.

Saturday Night - A 10 percent chance of snow before 7pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming east after midnight.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 43. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

Sunday Night - Increasing clouds, with a low around 28. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight.
