March Madness tournament for trails at Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - When it’s not buried in snow, Tahoe is home to an incredible network of trails. Whether it’s the one right in your backyard or the one that requires a permit to access, everyone has their favorite trail in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

This March is already one of the snowiest on record, which means it isn't quite hiking season, but it is bracket season! Over the next few weeks, the Tahoe Fund will be running a March Madness-style tournament to determine the most popular trail in Tahoe. There are 16 trails in the tournament, see a map here.

People can vote every Tuesday and the Elite-Eight (first-round winners) will be announced on Tuesday, March 21.

The West bracket has Mt. Tallac Trail vs. Eagle Falls Trail and Rubicon Trail vs. Ellis Peak Trail, the East is Incline Flume Trail vs. East Shore Trail and Marlette Flume vs. Spooner Lake Trail, the North matchup is Eagle Rock Trail vs. Picnic Rock Trail and Paige Meadows vs. Tahoe City Lakeside Trail, while the South bracket pits Rabe Meadows Trail vs. Spooner to the Bench Trail against Star Lake Trail vs. Van Sickle Waterfall Trail.

Who will win the first round? Who is making it to the Final Four and Championship rounds? Is there a bracket buster?

The final round champion will be announced on April 4.
