Chance of snow showers and brisk winds to start off the week in Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A cold front will sweep through the Lake Tahoe region Monday night bringing a period of snow showers followed by brisk northeast winds through Tuesday and possibly into early Wednesday. The could be a burst of moderate to heavy snow, resulting in snow-covered roads in the Sierra Monday night according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno

Strong northeast winds could affect ski areas Tuesday into early Wednesday, along with creating rough water on Lake Tahoe particularly the west shore. Wind chills will drop to -20 at times on exposed ridges, which can result in frostbite in just 30 minutes.

Wednesday starts a warming trend with another chance of a weather system going through there is a dwindling chance of snow Thursday.

Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 43. West wind 10 to 15 mph.

Monday Night - A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 37. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night - Clear, with a low around 23. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 48. East wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Thursday - A slight chance of snow showers after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 47.

Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 27.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 48.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 29.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 52.

Saturday Night - Clear, with a low around 32.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 56.
