Kudos; Tom Millham receives the DAR Medal of Honor

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, Tom Millham was presented with the DAR Medal of Honor at the California State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) 116th Annual State Conference in San Ramon, Calif. During the formal opening night session, the California State Regent Sharon Maas presented Tom with the DAR Medal of Honor and Certificate in front of over 350 members of the California State Society, including National and State Officers of DAR. Also in attendance was Tom’s wife, Cheryl, his niece Tiffani Calver, her husband Chris, and Tom’s longtime friends Ron and Ginger Mitchell and Karen Borges.

The DAR Medal of Honor is the most prestigious honor awarded by the Daughters of the American Revolution.  It’s given to an individual who is a United States citizen by birth and has shown extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism. The recipient must have made unusual and lasting contributions to our American Heritage by giving of themselves to their community, state, country, and fellow men.

Tom has been a well-respected leader in the South Lake Tahoe community for the past 48 years. DAR recognized and honored him for his years of leadership and service with the Kiwanis Club, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, and the American Legion. In addition, Tom was also recognized for his service to his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy Seabees. Tom served in Vietnam, Thailand, Okinawa, and the Philippines and also with the Pasadena Naval Reserve Unit.

Tom continues to honor our veterans and our country’s active and deceased military as Commander of American Legion Post 795.

Tom’s service extends well beyond the South Lake Tahoe community. His leadership with the Cal-Nev-Ha District of Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation was instrumental in the organizations being able to construct a building that now serves as a permanent home for their District and Foundation offices in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Tom was equally committed to the Foundation’s major focus of Pediatric Trauma and their work with Children's Hospitals throughout the California, Nevada and Hawaii region to prevent and treat trauma in children.

We are truly honored to have such a member of our city who unselfishly dedicates his time and resources to the community of South Lake Tahoe.
