Lake Wind Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe overnight

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin from 11:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25 to 11:00 a.m. Friday. Expect northeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and waves 2 to 5 feet.

Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

The winds come as a cold front passes through the region. There is a chance of rain and snow into Thursday evening. Warmer, spring-like conditions return this

weekend. On the horizon is the chance of another cold front likely to kick up winds Sunday night into Monday.

The immediate forecast from NWS Reno:

Today - A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 11am. Increasing clouds, with a high near 41. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight - Cloudy during the early evening, then becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming east after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 45. Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Friday Night - Clear, with a low around 29. East wind around 5 mph.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 54. East wind around 5 mph.

Saturday Night - Clear, with a low around 33. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 58.
