South Lake Tahoe teen collects supplies for Ukrainians

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Jaymee Levin saw the devastation on television after Russia attacked Ukraine and she once again jumped into action to help the people of the war-torn county.

Jaymee is a 16-year-old homeschooled student with South Lake Tahoe's Clarksville Academy. As she watched the news she saw babies, children, teens, and adults struggling with the cold in Ukraine as they were walking miles to get to safety. She jumped into action and spent a week collecting warm jackets, coats, beanies, gloves, and blankets from the South Lake Tahoe community for the Ukrainian refugees.

Jaymee has done this before. In 2017 and 2018 during hurricanes on the East Coast and California Fires, she decided she needed to try and do something to help the families left without clothing and supplies.

She washed some of the items, then packed them into different labeled bags. She spent hours trying to find someone or a company that would be able to ship all the items to Ukraine for her. She finally got in touch with an organization in New Jersey, which put her in touch with the Ukrainian company Meest in Sacramento. They were willing to accept the donations and ship them to Ukraine.

She has been told that the most important items that Ukrainians need now are diapers, baby formula, and baby feeding bottles, along with hygiene products. She will be doing another baby goods and family hygiene products drive in early April. Anyone that would like to help with these donations can get hold of Jaymee's mother Khymberleigh at ait1st@yahoo.com or by calling 213.399.1708.
