Police and fire respond to two vehicle collisions in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A driver was arrested Tuesday evening after their vehicle went over the wall at the Safeway gas station. At 8:42 p.m., officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the scene and found a white Dodge Caravan over the edge, resting on a red Toyota 4-Runner that was parked in the Safeway parking lot.

The 42-year-old male driver of the Caravan was cited for misdemeanor DUI at Barton Hospital, according to SLTPD Lt. Travis Cabral.

Earlier in the evening, a hit-and-run occurred on Keller Road near Steven Lane. At 5:36 p.m., a Jeep hit a power pole near the curve of the road, causing the pole to be sheered, falling onto Keller. A fire started at the base of the pole. The driver of the dark-colored Jeep left the scene in their vehicle.

SLTPD and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded, along with Liberty Utilities. The fire was put out immediately.

According to Cabral, witnesses were able to provide a description of the driver and the vehicle. Officers later found the car on David Lane. The owner had initially said the car was stolen, but, upon investigation, it was determined the owner had intentionally misled police and it wasn't stolen. The driver has been identified.

The case is under investigation and referred to the El Dorado County District Attorney's office.
