Washoe County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate death at Incline Village gas station

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - A 63-year-old man died at the Incline Village Chevron Station after being run over by a Jeep SUV on February 27, and the case is still under investigation by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO).

At approximately 11:25 a.m., WCSO deputies were dispatched to the gas station at 898 Tahoe Boulevard for a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was standing behind the vehicle when it started to back up. He was hit and then run over. The Jeep had two occupants and they left the scene.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) responded to render aid and the man was ultimately transported to the Renown Regional Medical Center where, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. Renown was the destination, as it is the only Level II trauma center in the area.

As of this time, the entire incident is under investigation by WCSO Major Accident Investigation Team. They will release their findings at some point in the near future. The matter is currently being investigated so many details are unavailable concerning the victim and the driver.

The victim was originally from Washington where his spouse was residing as well. WCSO made the accident notification to her, however, she could not fly to Washoe County because of bad weather. The victim had a local courier business that operated back and forth from Washington to the Incline Village area.

There have been several vehicle vs. pedestrian collisions in Washoe County and Incline Village, many of those resulting in death. As a result, WCSO is currently working with NDOT and Washoe County Roads to install and/or update signage to promote driver awareness and pedestrian safety. WCSO will be dedicating additional resources and staff members in the spring/summer months to provide better safety enforcement in highly congested areas where such events typically occur. This current case is on private property but adjacent to pedestrian areas of concern.
