Snow slide closes SR89 around Emerald Bay

4:45 p.m. UPDATE: SR89 has reopened around Emerald Bay.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has closed SR89 at Emerald Bay after a snow slide across the roadway Saturday afternoon.

At 1:06 p.m., emergency calls were received of multiple cars trying to get around the popular spot at Lake Tahoe when snow slid across both lanes. CHP is on the scene and has closed SR89 from Eagle Point Campground to Bliss Memorial State Park.

Caltrans is on the way to clear the snow.

According to CHP, there are no injuries and traffic is backed up inside the closure. They will have to get moved so Caltrans can move the snow. It is unknown at this time how long the road will be closed.
