Walmart staff thanks Douglas County Sheriff's Office

Staff from the Gardnerville Walmart recently stopped by to see Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) staff for two things, one to thank them for their help, and the other to fill them in on their foundation and how they can help the community.

Erik Schuman, store manager, Angela Wood, assistant manager, and Dayna Phelan, personnel coordinator of Wal-Mart store #5864 thanked the Patrol Division for their diligent work. They said that there have been several times that they called for service in regards to criminal acts at the store, and DCSO responded quickly and worked toward restoring safety and normal business to Wal-Mart. They brought donuts to the deputies in appreciation.

The employees also wanted to meet and discuss the Walarmt Foundation and their goal in the Douglas County community. Angela Wood said they feel passionate about helping people improve their lives and giving the under-served more opportunities. Dayna Phelan added that their employees would like to volunteer, outside their work hours, in local community events such as last year’s inaugural DCSO Haunted House. In the last four years, Wal-Mart awarded about $15k in cash and in-kind donations to assist the community through the Sheriff’s Office, and Erik said he wanted to increase those amounts.

The Gardnerville Walmart is one of the few stores in the county that is open 24 hours with a wide variety of merchandise, and their staff wanted DCSO to be aware that if there is a situation for someone in need, they could be contacted and together the store manager and DCSO could try to assist the person(s) in need.

Angela also added how DCSO and community organizations could apply for grants through the Walmart Foundation.
