Slow traffic on US50 to and from South Lake Tahoe as crews continue to work on fallen rock

The line of traffic streaming into South Lake Tahoe on US50 has been slow moving all day Saturday. The cause is from crews working at Echo Summit to continue cleanup of Friday's large rockslide.

Saturday's work is expected to wrap up around 6:00 p.m. Until the it is one-way traffic control through the work zone. More of the same is expected on Sunday.

The travel time from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville was up to 2 hours on Saturday, a trip that is normally 60 minutes.

There are alternate routes - use SR89 to SR88 to Jackson, then Hwy 49 to US50, or, use I80 from the North Shore.
