Man hospitalized with severe injuries after being hit by vehicle in South Lake Tahoe Saturday night

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 34-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a taxi on Saturday night in South Lake Tahoe

At 9:39 p.m., emergency personnel responded to calls of a vehicle versus pedestrian incident near the old Chevy's restaurant on Lake Tahoe Blvd., just east of Ski Run Blvd.

Upon arrival, the first responders found the man in the street. The road was blocked off as he was transported to Barton Hospital and officers from South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) began their investigation.

Preliminary reports show the man ran out into the street in front of the taxi. The driver of the taxi, which had passengers at the time, tried to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the man. They stayed on the scene and were cooperative with the officers. Alcohol is not suspected on their part.

The man who was hit was still hospitalized at Barton Sunday morning. There is no hometown listed for him and it appears he may be a transient, according to police.

US50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. remained closed for a while as SLTPD conducted its investigation.

The investigation is not complete and no other information is available. When more details are released this story will be updated.
