El Dorado County road maintenance crews begin tackling Lake Tahoe roads

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - After the epic winter of 2022-23, roads around Lake Tahoe have seen the effects with large potholes and crumbling pavement on many streets. Caltrans, the City of South Lake Tahoe, and El Dorado County all have roadways they are responsible for on the South Shore, and all have started their repair work.

El Dorado County will be opening its bid process on Thursday for a contract to perform grinding out and repaving 365,000 square feet of Pioneer Trail, and going to the Board of Supervisors on April 18 for approval. The County Department of Transportation (DOT) is also planning on resurfacing all of Pioneer Trail as part of the project. This is all scheduled to being in July and is funded with Measure S funds.

In the meantime, DOT crews continue to address the patching of potholes throughout the county as needed. County staff are currently identifying and gathering location information on road failures within their area of responsibility to determine their project list for permanent repairs this upcoming construction season.

DOT also has a project to repair and resurface South Upper Truckee this year using SB1 funds. It will take time to begin addressing the permanent repair work due to the anticipated runoff from this year's historic snowfall, DOT officials said.

The City of South Lake Tahoe released its road plans earlier this week (see here) and Caltrans is in the area working on US50.
