Demolition underway at site of old Lakeside Inn to make room for Stateline Medical Center expansion

STATELINE, Nev. - The bulldozers have been busy on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe this week, tearing down the walls of the old Lakeside Inn hotel rooms and other buildings along Kahle Drive that at one time housed a market, bike shop, and the old Glass Crutch casino.

Barton Health purchased the property and began the demolition phase for the Stateline Medical Center expansion on April 4, 2022. Demolition of the former Tahoe Beach Club satellite office on the corner of Highway 50 and Kahle Drive is scheduled to begin the week of April 18, and demolition of the main casino building along Highway 50 is scheduled to begin in June.

The owners of the Lakeside Inn announced its permanent closure in April 2020 after what was supposed to be a temporary COVID-related closure. Barton Health closed escrow on the property on May 7, 2021, and said they'd be building a health complex.

"Guided by the Community Health Needs Assessment, market trends, current health data, and an assessment of existing facilities, Barton is working collaboratively with community stakeholders and partner agencies to develop a strategic master plan and an accompanying facility plan for the project," said Thea Hardy, Barton Health public relations specialist. "The goal is to improve access, convenience, and coordination of care while efficiently meeting all regulatory requirements through a bi-state and dual campus strategy."

A community survey begins this month and community members may receive a phone call asking for their input regarding Barton’s current services as well as preferences.

The initial phase of the development of the strategic plan is scheduled for completion this fall with the facility planning to begin shortly thereafter, said Hardy.
