South Lake Tahoe cannabis revenue of $400,000 being dispersed through community grants

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe will be dispersing $400,000 in cannabis revenue through a grant process starting Friday, April 15. City Council formally approved the Cannabis Revenue Grant Program during its meeting on March 15.

The program is intended to mitigate the potential impacts of the cannabis industry and promote the priorities of the City’s 5-year Strategic Plan. Cannabis businesses are required to remit to the City a monthly Community Benefit Fee, equal to six percent of their gross receipts for that month. Annually, the City will allocate up to 50 percent of the previous year’s cannabis revenue for the grant program.

Applications from those wishing to apply for a grant in the amount of $1,000 to $50,000 may do so from April 15 until May 15 at 5:00 p.m. Eligible applicants include local public agencies and non-profit organizations located in or provide services within the city limits.

Applications will be reviewed by the grant committee, comprised of the Mayor, a member of the City Council Finance Committee, the City Manager, and the City’s Finance Director. Award recommendations will be made by June 30.
