Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Saturday, April 16 from 2:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches above lake level, except 6 to 12 inches along and west of Highway 89, including Donner Summit. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph and waves of 2 to 5 feet on Lake Tahoe. Ridgetop winds will gust up to 100 mph at times.

More tranquil conditions are on tap for Easter celebrations on Sunday. The weather pattern remains active next week and additional rounds of wind, rain, and snow are anticipated Monday into Tuesday and again in the middle into the end of next week.

Snow amounts for lake level are trending downward for areas east of SR89 (the west shore) but the advisory is still in place, mainly for areas above 6600 feet.

The weekend forecast from NWS Reno:

Tonight - A chance of rain and snow after 3 am. Snow level 7200 feet lowering to 6600 feet after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Saturday - Rain and snow, mainly before noon. Snow level 6600 feet. High near 45. Breezy, with a southwest wind of around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 25. Breezy, with a southwest wind of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Easter Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Sunday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 28. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
