South Lake Tahoe man arrested on multiple charges

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Saturday morning and has been booked into the El Dorado County Jail on multiple charges. Officer Simon with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) made a traffic stop on Stateline Avenue after seeing a vehicle that had a suspended registration.

Simon made contact with the driver, 50-year-old Laine Morton, and noticed possible psilocybin mushrooms inside the car in plain sight. Due to probable cause, the vehicle was searched. It was during the search that Simon said he discovered a .32 caliber revolver, a loaded handgun magazine, a spiked club, a meth pipe, and hypodermic syringes. He also discovered brass knuckles in Morton’s pockets, as well as methamphetamine.

Morton was booked on the following charges:

- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Felon in possession of ammunition
- Possession of metal knuckles
- Possession of an illegal club
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Possession of psilocybin mushrooms
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Bringing a controlled substance into a jail

His bail has been set at $130,000.
