Celebrate Earth Day in South Lake Tahoe at cleanup event at Heavenly Village

Event Date:
April 21, 2023 - 8:00am

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Celebrate Earth Day with a good, old-fashioned community cleanup on Friday, April 21 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. The League to Save Lake Tahoe will host the 9th annual Earth Day Cleanup at Heavenly Village.

Warming spring weather can expose trash left behind as winter snow starts to melt, leaving South Lake Tahoe scattered with litter. This debris is an eyesore and can harm not only wildlife but also Lake Tahoe’s clarity.

Locals and visitors of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate to celebrate the holiday and help Keep Tahoe Blue. Dozens of volunteers, along with staff from the League to Save Lake Tahoe have already signed up. The League is hosting the event in collaboration with local business partners: Azul Latin Kitchen, Base Camp Pizza Co., Forest Suites Resort, Harrah’s Harvey’s Lake Tahoe, Mananalu, Marriott Grand Residence, Marriott Timber Lodge, South of North Brewing and South Tahoe Refuse.

Participants will check in at Azul Latin Kitchen at the Heavenly Village, 1001 Heavenly Village Way in South Lake Tahoe. Volunteers can still register for the event at keeptahoeblue.org/earthday. Walk-in participants are welcome.

To register and for more information, visit HERE.

Cleanup activities will take place in and around the Heavenly Village/Stateline tourist core. Free parking will be available at Marriot Grand Residence for the duration of the event for those signed up. Lunch will be provided for volunteers from 11 a.m. – noon, compliments of Azul Latin Kitchen and Base Camp Pizza Co.

Tahoe’s world-renowned natural beauty and delicate ecology are damaged by to-go food waste, single-use plastics, shattered sleds, and a wide variety of other trash left on sidewalks, trails, and outdoor recreation spots. Unless the litter is removed, it will inevitably end up in Lake Tahoe’s beautiful blue waters. The League is hosting the event as an opportunity for residents and visitors to celebrate Earth Day by pitching in for a morning of TLC for Lake Tahoe and the planet.
