Grow Your Own - Lake Tahoe community festivals around the lake

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join Slow Grow Tahoe for the inaugural Grow Your Own Garden Festival, a free community event in three locations around Lake Tahoe that celebrates the joys and benefits of edible gardening in high-elevation regions. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this event has something for everyone.

The festivals will be held:
Friday, June 2 - 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center’s Tahoe City Field Station

Saturday, June 3 - 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Slow Food Lake Tahoe Gardens in Truckee
Saturday, June 10 - 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe

Register to attend the FREE festivals or reserve your edible garden seedlings available for pick up at the event. This year's edible plant sets specifically chosen for our high-elevation region include:

Tomatoes & peppers
Leafy greens
Potatoes
Peas
Squash
Onions & leeks
Edible flowers

UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe will be providing informative hands-on demonstrations and will be available to answer all your questions about what grows best in our region. They will cover topics such as plant selection, soil preparation, watershed-friendly practices, and pest control.

Additional demonstrations and vendors will be exhibiting container gardens, raised garden beds, compost, and more.

For those looking for inspiration, you can tour the gardens at each location to get ideas for your own garden. And, learn about volunteer opportunities that help you learn as you grow.

The Grow Your Own Garden Festival is a must-attend event for anyone interested in edible gardening or simply looking for a fun and educational day out. All ages are welcome at these family-friendly events. Come join us and be inspired with new skills to create your own edible garden in our high-elevation community.
